Story
Fundraising for Bliss through The Maximillian Garwood Sunshine Fund.
On October 8th 2016 our beautiful Son was born nearly 10 weeks early meaning he had to fight for his life.
We were nearly 600 miles away from home attending a wedding in the lake District when my waters broke. After being rushed to the wonderful Cumberland infirmary by ambulance we were faced with the news that Max would have to be delivered by c-section within the hour if he were to have a chance of survival.
We were very lucky as max was in reasonably good health all things considered. Whilst he couldn’t breath without support or feed without a tube he had suffered no brain damage and was free from infection. Max remained on supplemental oxygen for 6 weeks and a feeding tube for 5 weeks , he also had treatment for jaundice and GOR however was allowed home after 6 weeks.
The information and support provided by Bliss during this time and in the months following was critical The research they are doing may in the future significantly reduce preterm birth rates and improve outcomes.
Max received ongoing support from a wonderful paediatric team and has gone from strength to strength .
