Story

For 48 hours from the 16/04/21 – 18/04/21 we, George & Ben, a.k.a. TheHairyHandlebars, will be running a total of 48 miles in a bid to raise £2000 for the Bath-based homeless charity, Julian House. We will be running a set route through the city centre and will be dressing up/down for each 4 mile leg. If you see us gallivanting, we would appreciate your support. Of course, we are asking for donations but at the very least, give us a smile or a shout of encouragement! Should you wish to follow our progress, please check out TheHairyHandlebars on Instagram.

Since arriving in Bath last year, Ben has built friendships with a number of the homeless people who call the wonderful city home. In listening to some of their struggles, both of us feel compelled to support Julian House in the only way we know how: by undertaking an audacious physical challenge which we are scarcely prepared for. To that end, we are asking for YOUR help.

Julian House needs your help to rebuild lives! The last year has made many of us feel vulnerable, but for the people they support this is nothing new. Even before COVID-19 arrived most of the people in their care were vulnerable and often isolated from mainstream society. The pandemic has made their situation even more stressful and, in many cases, riskier. This was especially true for those without a home, experiencing domestic abuse, struggling with addiction and/or mental health issues. The pandemic has also had a devastating effect on Julian House’s voluntary income at a time when the demand for their services has increased. With fundraising events being cancelled and charity shops and bike workshops having to close temporarily, their voluntary income has taken a significant blow. The money we raise as we run 4 miles, every 4 hours, for 48 hours, will help Julian House provide vital services to those most vulnerable such as their emergency shelter. Your support can help rebuild more lives. Please donate where you can!
