Story

We're raising money for North Kent Mind to help those struggling with their mental health through:

The Good Outta Bad for People In Turmoil - GOB PIT campaign

We're taking donations for original 1976 bricks from the demolished "GOB PIT" at St George's C of E School in aid of mental health charity, North Kent Mind.

The “GOB PIT” used to back onto the R and S blocks (History, Geography, Special Needs & English classrooms) back in the 90’s and was about 20ft long by 6ft wide and 12ft deep, affectionately known as the “GOB PIT” because when footballs would inevitably end up down there from the playground opposite, someone would have to retrieve them, other youngsters would shout “GOB PIT” “GOB PIT” “GOB PIT” and run over to the pit.

You had to have lightning speed down those 12 concrete steps and back up again if you were retrieving anything from there to avoid being spat on.

Things have got a lot better since the 90’s and the days of the “GOB PIT” are long gone, that said it was an “iconic” part of the school and in an attempt to redeem its memory we've started:

“The Good Outta Bad for People In Turmoil” GOB PIT campaign.

We kicked off the campaign at the back end of last year and since then it’s become so popular with ex-students sending bricks out to old school friends, now living as far away as Sydney in Australia, siblings buying for each other as Christmas presents, childhood sweet hearts that met at school have bought for their other halves, even the teachers have got involved.

Steve Carey Executive Headteacher arranged for current students attending St George’s to spray paint each brick with its own unique number so the legacy lives on and supplied a signed certificate of authenticity with each brick.

27yrs ago I didn’t envisage I’d be loading the “GOB PIT” into the back of ex students, teachers and governor’s cars so I get it’s a strange concept to get your head around, but everyone’s got right behind it, and we’re smashing our 1K target.

Thanks to everyone that's got involved, It’s been a real team effort and brought the whole school community back together again.
