In 2011 I got the call from my stepfather. 

"Terrible news, John. Terrible news. Katrina. She's died."

Katrina had been depressed for a long time but nobody knew to what depth. Now she'd taken the final step. I was cycling a lot then, rehabbing my second ACL reconstruction and since that day I've wanted to do something to contribute to helping in the mental health sector, but I've never been sure what.

To raise money for SAMH, I am planning a trip I call "The Good Egg". A west-bound cycle trip to skate the big concrete of the Oregon Coast. I intend to relearn Egg Plants. 

If I succeed then we should have raised a grand for SAMH, and we should have a little documentary and a photo of the first good Egg Plant I've hoisted in at least 9 years.
