Story
I want to support and raise awareness for Dementia NI, because it is a fantastic local charity helping people live with dementia.
The charity advocates for people with dementia to take action and have their voices heard. It works to improve the lives of everyone who has dementia. The lives of people are dramatically changed by a dementia diagnosis. DNI's vision is to ensure everyone living with dementia in NI will receive an accurate and timely diagnosis, have access to appropriate services and live well with the right support. Together, we will continue to raise awareness, educate, train and challenge the stigma of dementia.
Both of my parents lived with dementia in the latter stages of their lives which make the aims of DNI so relevant and important to me.
I am cycling, on my own and carrying my own tent and kit, across France. From Cherbourg, on the west coast, to Strasbourg, on the Rhine at the German border. The actual route will depend on weather, hills (!), and how I'm getting on. It will be about 1000km, and could take 2 weeks or more.
As I progress, expect plenty of updates about the challenge, my whereabouts, the people I meet and the places I see along the way. You will see from my photographs that I am not a typical lycra clad road warrior, just an ordinary late middle aged bloke on a bike. I will be very happy to plod along at a pedestrian pace. I love France and consider myself incredibly lucky to go on this journey and to do something to raise awareness for Dementia NI.
With this in mind, Dementia NI and I will be extremely grateful for any donation you are able to make. Thank you. Patrick.
