Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year I am madly attempting the Great Manchester 10k run again - AND hoping to beat last years time! I've decided to raise money for MENCAP this year.
As many of you will know I currently work with young people with severe and profound learning disabilites in London. They truly are the best bunch of kids I have ever known and often face impossible challenges. Just like other teenagers without disabilities they experience teenage angst, crushes, tantrums and humour. Most importantly like any other teenagers many of them have hopes and dreams for the future. For some this is getting a girlfriend, for others going to college and for some to live as independently as possible. Unfortunately for some students this can be difficult and society can put lots of barriers in people's ways.
MENCAP work with people with a learning disability to change laws and services, challenge prejudice and directly support thousands of people to live their lives as they choose, in a variety of ways:
Learning disability is a lifelong diagnosis for the person affected and their families. We all know people in our own lives who either have learning disability or have a family member with learning disabilities, and so we all know the challenges that can present.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now. If everyone who reads this donates the cost of a pint (£2.50) I can raise over £100.
