What is the Big Sleep Out?
The Big Sleep out is an event that anyone can sign up to be part of.
On the 8th of October, Launchpad is asking people to take part in sleeping rough. By sleeping out in school, our select year 9 pupils, and volunteer staff will get an insight into some of the things people experience when they’re rough sleeping night after-night, as well as get involved in a number of challenges (i.e.. building a cardboard city and making kelly kettle hot-chocolates)
Who are Launchpad?
Launchpad are a charity and a drop-in service, which provide free housing and homelessness support and information. They have seen a sharp rise in the number of people in COVID-related crisis, and the affects of the current cost of living crisis in the UK – many of whom never imagined they would ever need to reach out for Launchpad’s help. Some are on the brink of homelessness because they have been made redundant, are fleeing domestic violence or have been asked to leave their home since the eviction ban was lifted. Other people’s tenancies are at risk because they’ve battled serious mental health issues or their addiction has worsened since the affect of the virus and the rise in the cost of living.
You can also get involved yourself by visiting Launchpad's website for details and information on how to take part in the Big Sleep Out , hosted at the Reading Abbey.
By supporting the Big Sleep Out at Bulmershe, and raising money for Launchpad, you will be helping them to provide urgent support for local people who are at risk of losing their homes, and to continue supporting their vital work with vulnerable individuals, couples and families in Reading.
