Story
Mental health matters and it is more important than ever before for open, honest dialogue surrounding mental health to occur.
Sometime around the 30th June 2021, the Thames Marvels will tackle the daunting task of swimming across the busiest shipping lane in the world, The English Channel.
Marika, Alaine, Rebecca, Vicky, Liz and Lee will swim in a set rotation for an hour at a time until they reach French shores. Not only will they have to dodge ferries and tankers, they will also have to contend with the weather, the tides, jellyfish, flotsam, jetsam and possibly swim in the dark. You may wonder why anyone would want to endure that? Simple, to raise money for an incredible charity.
The Charlie Waller Trust was created by the Waller family in 1997 in response to the loss of their son and brother, Charlie, to suicide having suffered from depression. They have since become one of the UK’s most respected mental health charities.
Their overarching mission is to educate young people and those with responsibility for them - parents and carers, teachers, college and university staff, employers, GPs and Practice Nurses - about their mental health and wellbeing and to give them greater confidence in talking openly about the subject. By enabling more open and better-informed conversations, The Charlie Waller Trust aims to further reduce the stigma that still surrounds mental health.
Please give generously to support this wonderful charity.
Many thanks, The Thames Marvels.
