Story

Many of you will remember back in August when I attempted to run 42 miles along the Welsh coast from Aberdovey to Harlech Castle. It didn't quite go to plan and I had to pull out early around 27 miles. You all know that quitting on a challenge is something out of the norm for me but when you can't physically carry on you need to refocus and save yourself for another day. What made it even harder was knowing that friends and family had pledged money in aid of Severn Hospice towards my challenge and I could not for-fill my promises. This did not sit very well with me and within 2 days of the event I entered The Winter Version taking place on Saturday 7th December 2019.

I am more committed to getting the job done this time and some of you will be aware of the current re-motivated Mr G over the last month. I hope you can follow me once again form now until challenge day via FaceBook and other social media and also hope you can sponsor my 2nd attempt at Running To The Castle.

Once again I shall be running in memory of my Dad who sadly passed away in January of this year. He spent his last few weeks in the care of The Severn Hospice Group, specifically "The Green Team at Bicton Heath Shrewsbury. Their welcoming and caring nature made his final days and our time with him much more comfortable and dignified than we ever thought possible. So with all this still very much on all our family's minds I have decided to try and raise more cash towards their valued efforts during our most vulnerable moments. This will be a very personal challenge once again for me but with your support I think this time it's achievable and we can raise some much needed funds.

Run to the Castle will take me from the coastal village of Aberdyfi to the castle town of Harlech which is approx 40/42 miles away. A 12 hour time limit has been set and with tide times having to be considered, it's not going to be easy especially at this time of year. However, many of the towns especially Barmouth and around the Shell Island section have special meaning to both me and my family. My Mom & Dad lived just 6 miles from Barmouth for about 10years and frequented all the local pubs, shops and cafe's within that area. I will also be running directly over the place where we scattered his ashes and finally laid him to rest.

I'm sure that this time it's achievable with the right training and inspiration taken from the The Severn Hospice Group and the work they do for all our loved ones that spend their final weeks with them.
