As the ice begins to thaw on Lake Michigan, our fundraising is heating up! So I'm writing to ask if you'll make a small donation to support our 2020 agenda as part of our Spring Into Action Giving Challenge.
Your donation will support my work as a housing attorney, where I fight to reduce the barriers people with prior criminal and eviction records face in securing access to safe, decent, and affordable housing, and use the Fair Housing Act to challenge the racially discriminatory enforcement of local crime-free and nuisance property ordinances, which force landlords to evict entire families because someone in the home is merely suspected of criminal activity. Your donation will also support the critical work of my colleagues, including efforts here in Illinois to implement a fair, progressive income tax, expand Medicaid to provide healthcare to undocumented immigrants, create a statewide insurance program for paid family and medical leave, and to end cash bail. And even if you don't live in the Prairie State, our work has national reach: Through our Legal Impact Network, we partner with non-profit legal organizations from around the country to end poverty through city councils, state legislatures, and the courts.
I would be honored to receive your support, and if you have any interest in my work, or the work that we do in general, just let me know!
