Hello Everyone!
This weekend my Dad & I will be taking part, with some 1100 other yachts in the historic Round the Island Yacht Race- racing the 50 nautical mile course around the Isle of Wight as part of the Quality Time Racing Team on sailing Yacht Zara.
This year the Race will be celebrating its 90th anniversary on the 3rd July 2021.This favourite yacht race is sailing’s answer to the London Marathon, crewed by some of the biggest names in sailing as well as keen amateur sailors, skim past The Needles, the Island’s distinctive rocky structure, round St Catherine’s Point and Bembridge Ledge and back into the Solent.
More information can be found on the official website. http://www.roundtheisland.org.uk
In addition to the challenge of the race itself, we will be travelling over 170 nautical miles in 2 days from Zara's home port of Portland, Dorset to the Solent & back- making this a challenge of endurance sailing 220 nautical miles in 3 days.
Raise '90 in 90'
To Celebrate this and as part of of the official race charity The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, we are trying to raise £90 in 90 for each participating sailing yacht.
The charity aims to rebuild young people's confidence by getting them out on the water.Young people need support more than ever as COVID has massively amplified the isolation, loneliness and anxiety they have experienced. That is why the Trust is so excited to be getting young people back on the water this year after COVID saw all sailing and outdoor activities cancelled in 2020.
The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is once again the official charity of this years Round the Island Race and we are helping change hundreds of young lives by fundraising for the Trust through taking part in the race.Since becoming the official Round the Island Race charity in 2005, an incredible £299,266 has been raised for the Trust. Now, to celebrate the race's 90th anniversary, the Trust is inviting entrants to raise at least £90 to help get beyond the magic £300,000 milestone!
