Terry Crook & Andy Wakefield are running the GNR in memory of Julie Crook. Terrys wife Julie lost her battle against breast cancer aged only 34 shortly after being diagnosed as a carrier of the BRCA1 gene. You no doubt will have read stories in the media about the increased risk carriers have of being struck down by breast cancer. The percentage risk is unbelievably high - near to 85%. Many women carrying the gene are now having preventative surgery (e.g.mastectomy) to reduce their chances of being diagnosed with cancer. Therefore, gene research is already saving lives. This particular charity is leading research into the links between the defective gene and breast cancer. This type of research could lead to one day finding a way of rectifying the faulty gene and in the future saving many more lives. Many of you will have lost somebody who had a hereditary risk as a result of carrying a defective gene. Julie touched many people's lives in a positive way before she died. You only have to look at her 3 kids, James, Ben and Sophie to see that!! Can we ask you to contribute in any way you can so that the memory of Julie continues in this positive way; by supporting and raising awareness of this vital gene research.....
