Story
What would you do if for one week per year you could do whatever and wherever you want?
I’m lucky to have negotiated this golden ticket with my Mrs for the past few years (I still can’t believe it tbh) - whilst she and the kids see their grandparents abroad.
After a few years of squandering this time feasting on back to back Marvel remakes and getting drunk with my pals I realised perhaps I wasn’t making best use of this time so instead decided to challenge myself for a change and walk Hadrian’s Wall (a lifelong childhood dream).
Since then three years ago Ive raised my game each time and discovered more of our beautiful countryside, whilst completely decompressing from the busyness of normal life. It’s much needed and overdue therapy really.
Walking 12-14 hrs a day, washing in streams, seeing food as fuel, carrying minimal tech and sleeping wherever you can find a flat field is my way to rediscover the value in simple things, and inversely recognise the amount of crap I keep finding myself under.
It’s no walk in the park though. I lost both Big toenails on Hadrian’s wall and one whilst traversing Wales last year due to our brutal landscape. This current gig should be done in two weeks, but I only have 8 days before the school runs reclaim my diary.
So 8 marathons in 8 days across three national parks carrying over 20kg of kit it has to be if I’m to make the train back on time. I thought if I’m willing to undergo a bit of pain, would you be wiling to pay to watch? And as a bonus make a positive change to society in the process through supporting the fantastic work of the NSPCC?
I hope so. Please help to protect kids from harm through sponsoring me on this walk. Each call to the NSPCC literally costs £4. I seek to raise enough money for 500 calls to positively intervene in the course of a child’s life and thus contribute to our society for the long term. Please be part of this effort.
With sincere thanks,
Terry
