Story
In the summer of 2017 after falling ill, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, a form of blood cancer.
This diagnosis turned our world upside down and was the start of a life-changing journey for us as a family.
After the initial clinical diagnosis, I found there was no other form of support that the hospital could offer outside my treatments. After several weeks and having had time to digest my prognosis, I started to find positive ways of moving forward. I took it upon myself to visit the Kirkcaldy Maggie’s centre to gain an understanding of what they could offer, in support of myself and my family (my wife, Susan, and children, Alex and Ryan).
During the following 15 months of treatment, Maggie’s were there for me with various forms of support that helped make life a little easier. From education and information on my treatment and prognosis to massages and helping me write my will, they were always there for advice and guidance or just to lend an ear over a coffee.
It costs £2,500.00 to run the centre per day.
We would like to raise this amount as a massive thank you for all that they do. I still pop in regularly for a chat and a coffee and have offered them my help if it’s needed. I have also previously been invited to speak to newly diagnosed patients during one of their “getting started” sessions, relating my own personal journey.
Thank you so much for your kind support!
