Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I met JB in 1996 when I moved schools. We both sat maths, technology and physics. He was the only other person in the school to sit the same classes as me. I didnt know him from Adam on day one, but we very quickly became close friends.
Johnny drove a wee red Corsa. It was his pride and joy. It was also how I was able to spend my bus fare in the tuck shop and still get home. Steve McCullough and I would pester him every day for a lift! It was also the transport used on my one and only day on the beak from school. needless to say we got caught but managed to bluff it and ended up in Saturday detention, instead of suspended!!
I was aware that Johnny had had cancer when he was younger. He didn't really talk much about it. This would continue in later years when he would just muster on as if it was a cold rather than cancer.
Fast forward and our illustrious drinking career was in full swing. Then Jb got sick again. In the beginning I didn't know what to expect but as time went on, Jb battled through. It got to the stage where we became complacent about it. This is a regret. We assumed he had beaten it before, he would do the same again.
27th April 2003. I was in Calico Jack's. I had been to see Johnny a few days previously. He wasn't able to respond to us, but we talked to him, Steve and I. We were meant to go again that day, but we didn't. I received a phone call from Kelso telling me the news. I was devistated. I'm crying now thinking about it. Ten years goes in the blink of an eye.
I ask you give what you can to this charity. I still see Johnny's mum Florence every now and then. She takes me right back to the good old days. She has asked specifically that we fund raise for Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children. Please be generous, dig deep and donate now.
