Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hello, my name is Terry.
On the morning of the 22nd of January 2021, I was walking to work and was knocked down by a car. The car hit me as I was crossing the road and then drove off. I was knocked approximately 1 meter down the road.
This was a terrifying and life changing event. I was taken to North Middlesex Hospital and then transferred to the Royal London.
I was in hospital for one week having suffered a fractured pelvis and acetabulum. During this time I had fantastic care from the NHS. I had scans and consultations with doctors and nurses and many discussions about the course of treatment.
After much deliberation and several pivotal and monumental moments in hospital, I made the decision to not have the high risk surgery and instead be treated conservatively and allow my pelvis to heal naturally.
I was discharged from hospital where I spent the following 4 months at home. Due to Covid restrictions I had to rehabilitate myself as much as possible with the support of my wife, Michelle.
I have had amazing support from my family during this time and am so grateful to the NHS for their care during my time in hospital.
This is part of the reason why I have made the decision to challenge myself to walk to my favorite football teams stadium, Tottenham Hotspur.
This is a real challenge for me as I broke my pelvis so severely it has taken me a long time to strengthen my pelvis and leg for this to be a possibility. I have been training with support from my family, my Occupational Therapist and some Physiotherapy.
On Saturday the 22nd of January 2022, a year since my accident that changed my life, I will be walking a total of 16.8 miles.
I have also decided to complete the skywalk at Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium. This is a momentous challenge for me as I am fearful of heights, however I feel that this is important to do. I am so grateful that I have made the recovery I have and continue to do.
I would be so grateful if you would sponser me to complete this challenge and provide much needed funds for the NHS.
Thankyou 😊
