Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Last Oct 2013 BOB came up with a Baldrick type cunning plan to ride Lejog as part of his many celebrations for his 71st birthday .Being an inexperienced novice cyclist who better fitted to guide him and show him the ropes  but his old climbing partner Terry Bell who had been racing bikes for nearly 60 years and ran one of the UK leading cycling and running coaching organisations –Mercury Performance Coaching based at Over Kellet and Glasgow.

When he mentioned it I was suffering with a chronic lack of fitness and only doing about 3 hours per week of social riding at about 10-12mph and having completed Lejog twice before and knowing how difficult it is I dismissed it as too daunting a task.

But at age 72 year`s I was overweight, had high blood pressure and cholesterol plus other minor ailments including an incredably low power to weight ratio  and thought it is time I took action other than taking big  Pharma solutions ,visited my Doctor and on Nov 1st 2013 I visited my coaching business sports scientist Mike at Over kellett and did several tests all of which proved sadly how out of condition I was in detail but this strangely motivated me even more into taking extreme action coupled to attending 7 funerals in recent times ,maybe, Mike could guide me through the complicated process of regaining ,maybe not my past fitness levels but at least improve the situation by reducing my weight ,Cholesterol and BP which would  at least combat the threat of being half-wheeled by John Fitz for 14days and maybe stop his annoying habit of whistling when he rode past us on the hills  .[There will be justice and retribution soon hopefully on a remote Scottish hill on  a rainy and windy day miles from anywhere and my HD camcorder will be there to record each moment of John`s torment and TB `s and Bob pleasure]

So on Nov 1st 2013 I started the training regime under the eagle eyes of Mike able assisted by  Iain` the brutal` our Glasgow performance centre and current Scottish national champion and I will report on my progress in later bulletins.

My mechanics at Brucie`s bike shop in Kendal were charged with the preparation of a Sleath bomber type touring bike capable of easing my passage and assisting my 14 stones of which  30% was body fat.[60LBS OR 27kgs]

Parkinson`s charity and my motivation/inspiration--Fred Neville Ward  for 65 years a close and loyal friend.

Bob and John had already decided to support Cancer and Uganda hospital ships  and  decided after looking at the JUSTGIVING site that this was a great way  to collect more money with tax benefits and supporting Parkinson`s UK  would possibly help indirectly several[3] of my close friends who currently suffer from it. Additionally my oldest buddy Fred Neville Ward sadly died only a month ago having suffered for over 7 years with `Progressive supra-nuclear palsy`[PSP]and that made the decision easy to make.

So I am hoping that friends of Terry`s will now support my chosen cause financially and my body and mind can be manipulated by Iain the Brutal and Mike at MPC to meet the challenge and propel me over 1000 miles of torturous and potholed roads of the UK shortly unsupported**.

**the MOGILS `team have agreed to my only condition to cycle the route unsupported by car but baulked at my suggestion to do it  Shackleton style by camping en-route and I have had to accept bed and breakfasts establishments will be used –aaahh softies.
