Story
I am so excited to be taking part in the 8th annual ABC hike and bike challenge. The money raised supports the Phoenix Burns Foundation which was established in 2006, in response to the devastating physical and social consequences of burn injuries to children of the Western Cape.
Phoenix work closely with the Burns Unit at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town and with St Joseph's Home for Children; they also run a very successful burns prevention program.
This is a cause that is very close to my heart; after working at the St Andrews Burns Service in Chelmsford for over 25 years and having been fortunate enough to be part of the first European Burns Association exchange program at the Red Cross Hospital in 2017.
Last year my husband and daughter took on the gruelling bike ride and were inspired by the work of the charity and experienced at first hand how the money they raised would be spent.
This year it is my turn and I am going to be undertaking the hike as part of the European Burns Association team. I am delighted that two of my physiotherapy colleagues from St. Andrews, Marie Matanle and Megan Spires will also be there.
Thank you very much for any support that you are able to offer to this fantastic cause.
