Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Dimbleby Cancer Care was set up after Richard Dimbleby sadly passed away in 1965. The aim was very simple: to make life better for people living with cancer. 50 years this aim is being accomplished primarily through the work that the Charity does at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital.
Dimbleby Cancer Care provides practical and psychological support services which includes information, guidance, welfare advice, psychological support and complementary therapies to help patients and their families. As well as the support, Dimbleby Cancer Care also complete research into new treatments. It is now estimated that 1 in 2 of us born after 1960 will face a cancer diagnosis. This makes the work Dimbleby Cancer Care provides even more vital.
In April 2013 my mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. When my family was first informed about my mother's diagnosis the whole family was in a state of shock and disbelief. The support that Dimbleby Cancer Care provided to my family really helped us come to terms with the challenges faced ahead. Without this support and guidance it is hard to imagine how my family would have coped. My mother unfortunately passed away in January 2014 after picking up a severe infection, this was just weeks after being put into remission. My mother was caring, loving, supportive and fun to be around. I miss my mother every day - I miss chatting to her over the phone about our favourite programmes, I miss her strong character but most of all I miss her smile and her laugh because my mother's smile and laugh could brighten up any cloudy day.
We are very grateful for the support and care that we were given by all the team at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital. My family and I will continue to support this charity so that we can in some way repay them for their kindness, which will enable Dimbleby Cancer Care to provide the same support to other families.
This 50:50:50 charity walk aims to raise £50,000 towards the £500,000 Care For The Future appeal to continue supporting the information and support services when the new Cancer Centre opens at Guys in 2016.
Please give what you can so that I can reach my target and be able to contribute towards the £50,000 group target that this event wishes to reach.
