Ok, we’re off…. this Mummy and daughter team are moving & grooving for mental health, exercising for 25minutes a day for 25days as part of #exercise4elop, the LGBT+ mental health & wellbeing charity’s 25yr anniversary campaign. We are helping to raise much needed funds to
support a dynamic but understated charity to very much continue its life changing and life-saving work of supporting numerous LGBT+ individuals, couples, and families across London and into Essex for another amazing 25yrs. elop provides a spectrum of support
services including counselling, mental health crisis prevention &
intervention, mental wellbeing workshops, support groups, befriending, events, forum & activities, an asylum service, a youth service and family support, along with training workshops & programmes for schools, public & corporate sector.
Why exercise and why elop? Well, let’s face it, regardless of age,
ability, ethnicity, faith or identity we all have and experience the highs and lows of mental health and wellbeing and this last 12months of living through the challenges of the covid-19 pandemic has rocked the minds and wellbeing of us all, but in particular numerous members of LGBT+ communities have been far more impacted. Many of us have lost access to safe social spaces and networks, been locked down in hostile living environments, facing fear of homo, bi or trans phobia from housemates or family members, and isolated far more than ordinary, especially teens and young people.
So for us, moving & grooving for mental health helps us stay positive,
increases our happy hormones (without chocolate!!), and keeps us smiling more 😊 - and doing it to raise funds for elop helps those in need get quality, life-changing mental health support at a time of need.
