Story

Thank you  for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The North Devon and North Cornwall branch of Samaritans has been supporting people in crisis for 55 years.  Normally, we answer more than 300 calls for help each week from people in crisis, offering a safe space for them to talk about how they are feeling when they are struggling to cope.

Our branch relies entirely on voluntary support and donations to keep the branch running and it costs some £26,000 each year, that’s £500 per week, to help people who really need us.  The restrictions of the pandemic mean we haven't been able to fundraise in our normal way, so it is even harder to make ends meet.

By running this half marathon, we hope to raise enough money to cover at least two week's running costs.  Every donation you make, no matter how small, will help us be there when someone makes that desperate call.  Please help us if you can.

Teresa - Samaritans have been part of my life since I first joined them when my younger two children were just a year old.  Now they are 24, being able to run the London Landmarks Half Marathon with Ellie-May means a lot to me. I don’t know what possessed me to think it was a good idea to take part in this.  I am more than two and a half times as old as Ellie-May and the aches and pains in my joints and muscles remind me of that each time I run!  I would love it if we can get round without injury and finish together.  That means me speeding up (some hope!) or Ellie-May slowing down.  Most importantly though, by raising funds, I want to help keep the branch running so there is always someone there to answer that call for help.

Ellie-May - I decided to run this half marathon with Mum as I know what great work this branch does from my home town. Mum has volunteered there for as long as I can remember, so knows first hand how much this charity is needed. I am by no means a runner, but if I can help to raise funds to keep this branch of Samaritans going then it is definitely worth it! After such a tough few years for so many, Samaritans is needed now more than ever to help those struggling to cope. I would be incredibly grateful for any donations so this branch can support as many people as possible.
