Record-breaking floods have hit Pakistan, affecting over 33 million people. Many have left their homes with little or no belongings, desperately seeking safety on higher ground. Families have lost their homes, livelihoods, and in some cases loved ones.
More than 1,150 people have been killed and at least 360 of these were children. The humanitarian situation is dire, and could get even worse as flood waters move to more low-lying areas. This could result in more people being forced out of their homes, more damage, and more pressure on the areas where people are seeking safety.
What is the DEC?
Were part of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which unites 15 member charities who are experts in humanitarian aid and specialists in different areas of disaster response. The DEC launches appeals during times of monumental suffering, which is the case in Pakistan right now.
