Our challenge
This May, Liam and Charlotte are challenging themselves to walk as far as they can to help find a cure for cancer. We don’t want to make this easy on ourselves, so we've decided to bring our exuberant puppy, Teddy along – he prefers to walk in circles rather than a straight line.
Why this matters
This challenge is personally really important to us. Our family - like so many others - has been forever changed by cancer. In 2018, Liam's Dad was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bowel cancer. Unfortunately, the treatment available at the time was unable to save him, and he died in May 2019.
Chemotherapy didn’t work for Liam’s Dad, but we want to help scientists find treatments that will. That’s why we are proud to be raising money for the incredible work of John van Geest Cancer Research Centre, who are working on finding a way of making cancer something that can be treated and lived with, rather than upending lives and throwing them into chaos.
JVG’s work
The Centre focuses on immunotherapy — using the body’s own immune system to fight cancer where other treatments (like chemotherapy) fail. It’s the next frontier in cancer research, and one of this century’s biggest breakthroughs in oncology.
JVG’s aim is to help create a world where cancer is no longer a killer. But they need our support to do this, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only made this more difficult. It has impacted research funding and stopped community supporters taking part in fundraising events. As JVG relies on donations to keep up their work, they have never needed our support more.
Please donate to our page today, and help JVG’s scientists find a cure for cancer.
