Story
Ted (Pop) was the most kind hearted, humble man who was always at his happiest when he was surrounded by his family. Being a child of the war, survival was in Ted’s nature, so it wasn’t surprising to see him fight Dementia and all it’s guises until the very end. He was as strong old boy! Ted wouldn’t say boo to a goose, he’d much rather feed it the last of his ham sandwich. I’ll really miss enjoying a nice cup of tea and a sandwich, listening to his stories of how he’d sleep down in the tube station during the blitz or jumping out an aeroplane in the RAF and of his many business ventures. He’d tell me about how he’d done another deal with a fella down the market or about ‘some bloke’ that was disrespectful to a lady in the supermarket and he gave him a ‘piece of his mind’. I’ll miss his laughter and his terrible off the cuff jokes.
Dementia is a cruel disease, which took this wonderful man from us too soon. Over the past ten years it stripped him of his memories and of the things that he held so dear. Sadly it robbed him of the ability to carry out his final years with the honour, dignity and independence that made him so proud. It took our Pop and made him a stranger in moments. Even though dementia is one of the leading causes of death worldwide there still is not enough support out there for sufferers or their loved ones. Please donate in hope that we can contribute to reducing the pain and suffering of another person and their family to fight this horrible disease.
We love and miss you Pop xx Rog (your grandson, on behalf of your loving family)
