Story
Big Race on Réunion Island !
From 20-23 October 2016, I’ll be taking part in the
24th « Grand Raid de la Réunion” endurance run in aid of the charity
Cogs4Cancer.
This extremely challenging, non-stop race is unique
and very well-known to ultra-endurance racers…
The course (also known as the “Madmen’s diagonal!”), which criss-crosses Reunion island from South to North, is much more than a simple mountain trail, as it is 167km long and has an uphill gradient of 10,000 metres.
I’m under no illusions that this will not be tough going but the cause is something very close to me, with all my sponsorship money going to the Cogs4Cancer charity in Antibes which my friend Ben Young, head of SuperYacht Management in Golfe Juan helps to organise.
Last year Ben got me to dip my toe in the water by taking part in just the final, St Tropez stage of the Barcelona to Antibes Cogs4Cancer cycle ride but this time I’m putting much more effort in!
This is my 4th time at the Reunion event so I already know what I’m letting myself in for… now it’s over to you!
I’m asking you all to sponsor me an amount of your choosing or €1 per kilometre of the course (167km) so a total of €167 to donate to Cogs4Cancer. Anything you can give will help them hit their next ambitious target of €100,000!
I’ve always liked endurance running (whether in this race or others I’ve run), the idea of going above and beyond my limits. As soon
as the starting gun goes, I’ll be focused on completing the course and giving it my all for Cogs4Cancer.
I also hope to be able to share some amazing photos of
Reunion island’s landscapes.
