Story
Team Zaytoun is running a marathon distance of 42.2km to raise funds in support of Amos Trust's work - raising awareness of the human cost of Israel's Separation Wall, demanding freedom of movement for Palestinians and helping to raise £15k to rebuild a Palestinian home.
We are Susan, Bridget, Cathi, Wesam, Omar, Heather, Mahsheed and Manal. Some of us rarely run or haven’t run for years but we all recognise the importance of this project, this year more than ever. Every £ you donate will spur us on to achieve our combined target. On the morning of 27th March, we'll each run 5.28km simultaneously in our respective hometowns of Oxford, Salisbury, Buckfastleigh, Pinner and London.
The human cost of the Wall is something we have seen for ourselves through our work at Zaytoun. For a Palestinian, a 30-minute journey could easily take several hours. Those with a different passport will have a completely different experience.
The stories are countless... workers having to get up at 3am to queue up for hours at a humiliating checkpoint in order to make it to their place of work on time... farmers who can't tend to their trees because of lack of access to their lands that lie on the other side of the Wall, and have to see their harvests ruined as a result... elderly people and children who don't make it to a hospital on time because of the difficulty of obtaining permits to cross the Wall.
We are joining with other runners from Palestine and around the world to cover the 750km length of the Israeli separation wall over the weekend of 26 - 27 March 2021.
Amos Trust normally takes a team to participate in the Palestine marathon in Bethlehem at the end of March but this year, for obvious reasons, that won't be happening so instead we will show that even though we can't run together, we can stand together.
Thank you for your support. Together we make a difference.
