Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Sunday 9 July 2023, a team including my sister, husband, friends, and I, will be pedalling our way up the country, from Manchester to Blackpool, all in aid of an amazing charity close to our hearts – The Christie.
The bike ride is 60 miles long and our team of nine, includes a mixture of fitness levels and biking experience. The majority of the route is by road and hilly in places, and for many of us this will be the longest bike ride of our lives – so this is going to be no walk (or ride) in the park!
So why are we doing this?
In November 2021, I was diagnosed with clear cell carcinoma endometrium, a very rare form of a type 2 cancer which grows quickly. My treatment included removing the tumour, and the bottom-part of my bowel, and six rounds of chemotherapy.
The Christie is where I received my treatment, and they are providing me with a maintenance drug for two years to further reduce the chance of the cancer returning.
This amazing charity also offer a ‘closer to home service’, which means that I don’t have to travel to them for my monthly blood tests. Instead, they send teams to local hospices so I can attend one near to where I live, instead of going into Manchester. It’s enhanced services like this which make a real difference to me and to the countless other people they help.
The Christie doesn’t charge patients a penny, and only exists because of fundraising initiatives like this, so I want to raise as much money as possible for them, so that they can continue to help many more people like me.
