Story
Between 2nd and 15th July 2023, Dan, Justin, Lara, Neil, Trevor, Kelly, Ben, Ben and Frazer will be cycling 1,000 miles from The Close, birthplace of the game, to Menton, William Webb Ellis' resting place in the South of France. They will be joined along the route by Gareth, Gauthier, Mark & Louis.
The Webb Ellis Cycle Pilgrimage is to recognise the 200th anniversary of rugby football; 200 years since Rugby student, William Webb Ellis, took the ball in his arms and ran with it on The Close at Rugby School. This act changed the game of "football" for ever and it is now known globally as "rugby".
To mark this special sporting anniversary, our 13 cyclists will be raising money in memory of Webb Ellis through a new bursary for children, who otherwise couldn't afford it, to be educated at Rugby School. In addition they will be raising money for the incredible Matt Hampson Foundation which highlights how the rugby community is one of support and giving back.
Please do support these cyclists and help them to raise valuable funds for these two charities.
Your gift will be split 50:50 between the two charities. Find out more about them here:
