Story
My name is Cheryl and I am an Asset Coach with The Wallich, I have had the pleasure of working in different services within the organisation to get where I am today.
I am running the half marathon this year to raise money to support The Wallich to continue supporting people through homelessness. We believe that everyone deserves the right to a home, but more than that, that everyone deserves the right to feel safe, to feel valued and to feel positive about their future.
The Wallich operates under three core objectives:
Getting people off the streets;
Keeping people off the streets;
and Creating opportunities for people
The Wallich as an organisation helps people at different stages of their journeys and looks to build up people and sometimes their families to break the cycle of homelessness for some by helping them access other services, a safe place to stay, access courses to help promote independent life skills and courses which help to gain confidence and possibly employment for some. The Wallich promotes independence for its service users and looks to help them to lead a full better life.
I first discovered the benefits of exercise during lockdown, being new to this, I started understanding how this not only makes your body fit but how it benefits your mind. My fitness journey has taken me from strength to strength, from exercising in my living room to joining a local boxing gym, and then a local rugby team! This journey has inspired my friends and family to see for themselves how fitness enriches your life in more ways than one.
I'm running the 2022 Wizz Air Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 2 October. Please support me to raise money and awareness
