This year, a number of TS Foods (www.tsfoods.co.uk) employees are teaming up to take part in the Belfast City Marathon on the 5th of May .
Paul Holmes, Catherine Cleland, Paddy Curry, Jayne Moore and Ronan Barr are taking part in the annual event as a relay team to raise money for Histio UK, and Mark Knox also will be running as an individual to raise money for the charity.
The charity is one close to Mark’s heart, as his two year old son Shay suffers from hystiocytosis.
Histiocytosis is an umbrella term applied to a group of rare diseases, characterised by increased numbers of white blood cells (called histiocytes) in the blood and tissues. In all forms of histiocytosis these cells - which are part of the protective immune system - begin to attack the body, targeting many organs of the body including the bone marrow, liver, spleen, lungs, skin, bone and brain. Because it is such an under-researched illness, any funding at all is vital to ensure as much information as possible can be gathered to ensure better future treatment of patients.
TS Foods are kindly covering the costs of Team TS entering the Belfast City Marathon, but we want to raise as much money as possible to ensure the charity can continue it's vital work in raising awareness of this disease to improve the lives of patients and their families.
