Story
I was going to start by apologising for sending you a charity sponsorship request, but I've decided that is a negative way to start. Instead, I will tell you of the enormous feat three of my buddies and I are going to be undertaking in July in the name of a very under-funded and under-discussed charity:
It's called “The Pedal, Paddle, Peak Challenge” and the purpose is to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy UK. The challenge involves a 30-mile cycle ride in the Lake District, a 2-mile row across Ullswater Lake and a climb up Helvellyn, England’s second highest peak. Bear in mind that the first half of the event will be carried out with substantial
hangovers. (This is optional, but one we shall no doubt adhere to!)
Pete is the chap organising this. (Well, he's the one who talked us into it!) The charity is particularly close to his heart as his godson Tom, who is now 19, was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy 13 years ago. Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic disorder characterised by the progressive loss of muscle. It affects many parts of the body and results in deterioration of the skeletal, heart, and lung muscles and there is currently no cure.
Tom has been wheelchair - bound for many years but, through the incredible support of his parents and Muscular Dystrophy UK, he is now attending university and representing England in Powerchair Football.
For what is a fantastic cause, but also for all our pain during and after the event, I would ask if you could kindly spare us a few £££s. We have a set target that we are not just trying to achieve, but trying to smash, so we really appreciate any donation you are happy to make.
Whilst I pop off and start stock piling Vaseline, I leave you to your sponsorship.
Thanks again.
Ryan.
