Story
Imagine you’re 16, you’re asked if you want to meet a bunch of strangers and undertake a canoe trip lasting over 100 miles, over 4 days you’ll have to camp and cook in all weathers. And that’s only if you survive the training weekend and 3 training days during the 2months leading up to the event. It’s going to be tough, physically and emotionally challenging. It’s going to take commitment, adaptability and teamwork, and the only reward you’ll get is completing the challenge – WOULD YOU BE UP FOR IT?
This year young people from Surrey are about to being the preparetions for the challenge. As always the young people participating need and deserve as much support and encouragement as their community can muster. The event not only challenges their physical endurance but also their mental endurance. The skills they gain from taking part do not only lie in the activity itself but all that the adventure is made up of. Camping, cooking, leading, trusting, and being patient are among just some of the essential parts of every day.
Every young person makes a contribution towards this event and the 4 training weekends prior, but 90% of the cost is subsidised by SCYP. By donating just a small amount you can help to ensure that this event continues in the future, providing more young people with a chance to develop and challenge themselves.
