Our colleague and member of Team Purple, Ben Moreland's daughter Ella, recently had a best friend of hers die very suddenly of Meningitis at the tender age of 16. We have all been touched by this story and have chosen to fundraise in Connie's memory.
We have selected an event that we will all find personally challening as we are not experienced walkers. The challenge consists of walking the coastal path from Weymouth to Swanage, possibly with diversions where the path has fallen away or is dangerous. We have been told anyone expecting a gentle stroll along the cliffs will be in for a shock! Ironically, it's called the Dorset Doddle. The distance is 32 miles, passing through the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site over some of the most beautiful coastal scenery in England, but includes some tough climbs on the way which amount to 3000 metres.
We are hoping to raise £2000 for the Meningitis Research Foundation. What we like about the charity is its objective to promote education and awareness. It reminds us what a real threat meningitis is, particularly to children, and how little many of us know about it.
We are therefore dedicating a lot of our own time to train as a team in order to accomplish this challenging event. We would very much appreciate all of your support in helping us to achieve this and to raise money for this good cause.
