Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are taking part in the Thames Path Challenge. This is a 100km route along the Thames, which Dave and I are going to walk, while crazy Chris attempts to run!!
We have decided to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society as last year our Aunt passed away in a nursing home, after suffering from this condition for several years. Also, we have seen how our close friends' lives have been affected, and the problems they have faced, in caring for a parent with this illness.
Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, affecting around 496,000 people in the UK. The term 'dementia' describes a set of symptoms which can include loss of memory, mood changes, and problems with communication and reasoning. Alzheimer's is a progressive disease, so that gradually, over time, more parts of the brain are damaged, and symptoms become more severe.
The Alzheimer's Society provides services including day care and home care, as well as support to help partners and families cope, and offer information to help those living with dementia. They also provide a helpline. Every year they invest around £2 million in their research programme. In addition, they campaign to raise awareness of the illness. If you would like further information please follow the link to their website: http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/
