Story
On the 24th May, members of the Booths Buying and Supply Chain team will be running the 14.3K route from Booths Central Office in Preston, around the Guild Wheel to Booths Riversway.
This is just the first leg on stage 1 of 5 of what is an epic bike ride to raise valuable funds for the blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia - an idea which came from COO and keen cyclist Nigel Murray.
The Tour O’ Booths in total is a 600km cycle, which takes place over 5 days across Booths Country. The route visits all stores and
sites across Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cumbria, Cheshire and Greater Manchester but will also include visits to the important cancer treatment centres at The Christie in Manchester and The St James Hospital in Leeds.
Later in the year Nigel will be joining former England, Crystal Palace, Wolves and Nottingham Forest footballer, leukaemia survivor and Patron of blood cancer charity Cure Leukaemia Geoff Thomas, to cycle the full Tour de France route one week ahead of the professionals in 2021.The Tour 21 will take place from Saturday June 19th - Sunday July 11th involving all 21 gruelling stages and 3,470km of the Tour de France 2021 route a week ahead of the professionals.
Nigel is part of a team of 25 amateur cyclists, committed to raising £1,000,000 for the charity that helped save Geoff's life. All funds raised from this event will be invested directly into the national Trials Acceleration Programme (TAP) network which Cure Leukaemia will begin funding from January 2020 allowing them to open and run clinical trials for pioneering treatments for the disease. Patients from an increased catchment area of over 20 million people will have access, as a result, to potentially life-saving treatments.
Please sponsor Simon, Paul and me on the first leg of the run. This will in turn support Nigel & team in their fundraising efforts for Cure Leukaemia.
