Team Otis

Hampton Court Half Marathon 2018 · 18 March 2018 ·
Meet Otis. He is the son of my very dear friends, Ray and Adrienne Earls, and was due to arrive on 7th December 2017. But Otis unexpectedly made an appearance 14 weeks early, on 31st August, weighing just 1lb 4oz.
Thankfully Otis was stable enough to be transferred to the neonatal unit but the weeks and months that followed were far from plain sailing. Otis braved numerous procedures and complications, including brain scans, blood transfusions, several infections - one of which resulting in full ventilation support, lumbar punctures and medicine to temporarily paralyse him to conserve his energy. At one point things became so bad that the nurses thought he was 'growing his wings' ready for heaven.
Despite some further twists in the road, including several more infections and an eye operation, Otis continued to go from strength to strength. Finally on 27th December 2017, Otis was allowed home and although his parents have a road yet to travel regarding Otis' development, they have been told to consider him clinically well. What a little miracle!
Being a parent myself, absolutely nothing can prepare you for the experience, but having a premature baby and spending months of your life on the neonatal unit must be something else entirely. And all the while, Ray and Adrienne, have handled everything exceptionally well. No complaints or 'why us' just sheer patience, courage and total dedication and love for their little boy.
The treatment that Otis, and his parents, have received has been second to none. So, I want to raise money to support this wonderful charity who have looked after my friends so very well. This is for you, Ray, Adrienne and Otis. You are truly inspirational and I want you to know how much your friends and family admire your strength and courage. Here's to you as you begin your life as a family of three, at home where you belong x
