Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
The Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (NRU) at NHNN provides rehabilitation for people over the age of 16 with the most severe life-changing brain and spinal cord disorders. It is an 18-bedded unit where people stay for 3-6 months at an extremely distressing time for both them and their families. It is therefore vital that the environment provides not only an effective clinical therapeutic space but also a welcoming relaxed space where those affected can live for up to 6 months. This is challenging given the small geographical area of the NRU and the necessity to ensure it is a fully accessible space as most patients will, for a significant amount of their stay, be wheelchair users. In addition many of our patients have significant cognitive and communication impairments and therefore the space must be easy to navigate and have clear designated areas for different functions. For example, having a quiet area where patients can enjoy time with their families and loved ones is essential at such an emotional time.
The NBA has committed to contributing to the costs (not already met through very generous patient donations) towards the redevelopment of the NRU to improve both the working and clinical environments for patients and staff, but most importantly to the Dayroom which is the main living space hub. Team NRU is completing the London Santa Run 2019 to raise money towards this vital project and spread Christmas spirit to all on the unit! We would be so grateful if you would sponsor us in our efforts.
