Story
In November 2021, Miles was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and in the following 14 months endured multiple rounds of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and braved a full-leg amputation in April last year. Sadly, Miles passed away on 31st December 2022 after putting up the biggest fight. Miles’ life and the lives of so many other children, teenagers and adults are taken as a result of this disease. We want to raise as much as possible to support the BCRT, enabling them to fund future research and help others like Miles.
The Bone Cancer Research Trust is dedicated to saving lives and improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer. Despite being small, they fund more research projects exploring primary bone cancer than any other organisation. Other large UK cancer research charities do not prioritise bone cancer patients, in 2019 just 0.028% of their research spend went to bone cancer – not even close to 1%!Last year alone, Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research - to save lives!
We had hoped to run the Hampton Court Palace Half Marathon in March, however training took a massive backseat after Miles' death. We knew we weren't ready and therefore did not take part. Instead, to raise as much money as possible, Myself (Kasey) and Will will be taking on the challenge of the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 8th October 2023. As well as for the second year running completing the London to Brighton Cycle on 10th September, joined by my mum Lee.
These events aren't huge and is certainly nothing in comparison to what Miles went through, but it will definitely be a challenge for us. It's safe to say we aren't runners! But were training and going to give it our best, so we would appreciate any donations you are able to give to this incredible cause.
Thank you!
