Story

Thanks for visiting Team M.E.T.S  fundraising page. Do donate as its for a good cause and we will do our level best to complete the 100 KM within 48 hours.

We are now raising funds for Oxfam by participating in the Oxfam Trailwalker 2009. The date is set for May 22-24, 2009.

Oxfam Trailwalker Updates:

May 22, 2009 was a good day to start a walk. Warm sunny day with all of us in high spirits and very high hopes.

The day was warm in the beginning but eventually become hotter. We started off good but Shyam forgot that he not only had to rehydrate himself but also keep his salt content constantly replaced. Then it happenned Shyam was hit with severe cramps on both his legs (First Left and then Right).....Damn....and for the first time the team were forced to take a long break.

Shyam learned his lesson and kep the salt candies with him and was constantly eating them. But thanks to the cramps Shyam slowed down during climbs.

This was in between Check point (CP)1 and CP2, where the rise is from 200M to close to 800M.

With the other CP we caught up mostly with our planned times.

Then came the CP4-CP5 possibly one of the worst down hill slopes, a near 1000M drop in a very short distance , this lead to our next round of casulties. This time it came in the form of severe pains in the knee joints. Kuma tried his best to hide it, but with more distance to cover it was becoming quite evident that each step was becoming harder.

Machiko also was hit by the descent but her turn came between CP6 and CP7 and by this time the husband-wife duo found it close to impossible to move, but they put a brave front and managed to reach te 79.5KMS marker. They had to declare their retirement at this level.

Shyam and Emi then teamed up with another one of Thomson Reuters team who also lost 2 members to the same injuries as Machiko and Kuma and we decided to move on. Shyam had managed   to get his hands on some magical pills that took the pain away (NO!!! no drugs just Pain killers). Emi and Shyam with thier new team members managed to get into the Finish Line by 07:02:40 on Sunday May 24, 2009. Clocking in 46 hours and 04 mins.

Training Updates:

The photo is of our first trail walk, we walked along the Inariyama course on Mount Takao in the outskirts of Tokyo, did not strain ourselves too much. The team photo has a shot of the 2 biggest supporters (Shyam's Kids, aged 5 and 1 year 4 months) who joined our practice walk. Photographer is Shyam's wife.

We next plan to walk the actual trail, dates have not yet been finalized (but we are not going to walk the full 100KMS for practice), only certain sections.
