We the family and friends of Elijah "Lightning" Halse are running the Percy Pud 10k again to raise money for children’s charity Action Medical Research, specifically the Elijah Halse tribute fund. This is the sixth year in a row we have run the Percy Pud in Elijah's memory. There are 30 of us running this year - which is still mind blowing. Auntie Miia will be running her first 10km in Shaldon, Devon on the same day. James and I have set out to raise £37,000 in memory of our boy - £1000 for every day of his life.
"Lightning" was born at 25 weeks and 3 days in March 2013. He lived in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Jessops Hospital
Sheffield. Despite making good initial progress, Elijah died having
contracted NEC (necrotising enterocolitis). You can read more about him here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/elijahhalse
Elijah is buried at Wisewood Cemetery in the beautiful Loxley Valley
only a short distance from the start of the Percy Pud. It's a fitting
race to run for him. We run to remember that he lived. As the years go
by, the pain of losing him changes but never goes away. Through fund raising for Action Medical Research we hope to make a difference in the care for babies like Elijah in the future.
As we've got to know more about the amazing research Action Medical Research funds, we feel privileged to be able to support the charity in
Elijah's memory. Action Medical Research is the leading UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research. For 65 years we’ve helped pioneer ways to prevent disease and develop treatments benefiting millions of people. Our research has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths. But we urgently need to develop more new treatments and cures for sick babies and children and we can’t do it without you. Join our fight for little lives.
Any donation you are able to make will be gratefully received.
Thank you, Team Lightning x x x
