Story
This is Faye’s story and why Alder Hey Children’s Hospital is invaluable.
Back in February 2016 when Faye and her identical twin sister Lucy were only 6 weeks old Faye stopped breathing. Luckily she was in Louise’s arms (mum) and she administered immediate first aid commencing cpr and brought her back with rescue breaths.
Faye was taken to hospital and spent almost 3 months in high dependency. She was eventually diagnosed as having pertussis (whooping cough) and now has a rare lung condition called bronchilitis obliterans and has to have daily medication and physiotherapy. Alder Hey respiratory team diagnosed this rare lung condition and helped Faye to manage it.
Faye was fine and leading a normal life and had just started primary school when after a few weeks in September 2020 we noticed some strange veins appearing on Faye’s chest. We took Faye to the doctors who sent us to the hospital and it was such a shock to be told that Faye has been diagnosed with T cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. This is an aggressive blood cancer and we commenced a 2 and a half year treatment plan. This has involved over 500 doses of different kinds of chemotherapy, lumbar punctures, biopsy’s and many more things a little girl should not have to go through. She still has about 12 months left of chemotherapy treatment.
All of this has been done at Alder Hey and without them Faye would not be here today. As a family we cannot thank them enough I just hope that we can raise enough money so another family or child in the future can also be treated and looked after the same way we are.
On May 7th 2022 we will be attempting to complete the Manchester Born Survivor event. We are doing this event to raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Faye you are an inspiration and I hope we make you proud by completing this event and raising money.
Now please sponsor us and let’s make some money for this amazing hospital.
