Story
On 1st and 2nd September, our colleague Sam, and a team of amazing friends will take on a Coast to Coast Triathlon to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy UK.
This event consists of a 115 mile bike ride from Whitby to Windermere on Day 1. Followed by a 1 mile swim across Lake Windermere to Lakeside, and then a 26 mile Marathon run to Walney Island (Barrow in Furness) on Day 2.
Most of the team are not experienced triathletes - this will be a huge challenge.
Joining Sam on this expedition from JCB will be Peter Gallagher and John Smith, who are both Riding, Swimming and Running. And also Gavin Neate and Greg Fitton who are part of the support crew.
In addition, we have recruited 2 JCB Teams who will take on the Marathon part of the event as a relay:
JCB TEAM JOHN: George Potter; James Hollis; James Coxon; John Smith
JCB TEAM STEVE: Richard Foxley; David Timmis; Bryonne Skelton; Joe Gilbert; Louise Hemmings; Matt Burnhope; Joe Eddleston; Steve Smith
In 2014, Sam's Son Will was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a severe muscle wasting condition which currently has no cure. Will now 8 years old, and continues to be really active, but we know that unless a treatment becomes available soon, his mobility, and life expectancy will be severely limited by DMD. Our mission is to do whatever we can to help find a treatment in time.
The Coast to Coast Triathlon is a positive way to raise awareness of Muscular Dystrophy, and to raise funds that will support Will, and other children with the same condition.
We want to raise over £20,000 for Muscular Dystrophy UK, and specifically their ‘Breakthrough Research Fund’. All of the money that is donated will be used to fund research into treatments for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
