1:6000 children are born with microtia. Microtia results in underdeveloped ear(s) and impacts hearing. It can impact the heart, kidneys, different parts of the face and spine. There is an ongoing question whether microtia is environmental or genetic or a combination.

Story

Our chunky little man Jacob was born with right sided Microtia Atresia. Meaning he has an underdeveloped ear (his special Nemo ear) on his right side and no ear canal causing hearing loss.

Microtia is a rare condition affecting 1 in 6,000 babies.

Microtia (Greek for ‘little ear’) is a malformation or misshape of the external part of the ear (pinna) and can vary in severity from the ear being smaller than expected to varying degrees of absence of the outer ear. In some cases, a smaller or incomplete ear canal and/or hearing apparatus may be present or missing altogether (atresia). Microtia is frequently accompanied by atresia because the baby’s outer ear and the ear canal develop together during pregnancy.

Microtia can also effect your kidneys as these develop at the same time as your ears (who knew, you learn something new everyday). Jacob was also born with cysts on his kidneys as a result of Microtia. There is little research at the moment about this so even more reason why we are raising funds for this charity.

We want to raise as much as we can for this wonderful charity who have been our biggest support during his first few months and the scary time of myself Emily (Mummy) going to appointments alone. So please donate what you can it is very much appreciated and we all thank you so much.
