Story
Hello,
We're Team Ithaca - an ocean rowing team with a conscience.
Plastic in our Oceans is an astronomical problem that is hugely affecting the ecological systems that are vital not just to Marine Life but also Human. Approximately 12.7 million tonnes of plastic enter our oceans every year, causing havoc with our oceans food systems and Marine Life, and the problem is only getting worse.
In a bid to elevate momentum in the fight against plastic pollution, we'll be rowing 2,000 miles around the entirety of Great Britain- conducting world-leading research to help the world understand the enormity of the plastic pollution problem and the impact it's having on the whole ecosystem.
Sleep deprivation, exposure to the elements, some of the world's busiest shipping lanes and seasickness are just a few of the tribulations we will face on this expedition all in aid of protecting our incredible Oceans and raising vital money for our charity - CanRehab Trust.
CanRehab Trust helps people living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis to become or stay active by providing safe, individualised exercise programmes. People who have had a cancer diagnosis are matched with a registered cancer exercise qualified instructor who can provide them with either on line or face to face individualised support. CanRehab Trust was founded by Dr Anna Campbell MBE who is Professor with a special interest in cancer and exercise and founder of the first training provider for cancer and exercise rehabilitation in the UK. The Charity seeks to support people affected by cancer to stay or become more active and increase their ability to self-management during and after cancer treatments, and improve their quality of life. CanRehab Trust has developed a Register of approved personal trainers and health professionals qualified to provide safe tailored exercise programmes for people living with cancer. We aim to match individuals who require an exercise programme to the appropriately qualified instructor who can provide a number of safe and effective exercise sessions tailored to the person’s needs based on their diagnosis, stage of treatment, other health issues and previous exercise experience.
