Story
Welcome to Team Hocking's fundraising page. We will be running the London Marathon in April 2009 to raise money for the Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS).
Our dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease (PD) 22 years ago when we were all under the age of 10. Being only 35 at the time and with a large (!) family to support, he bravely continued working until aged 49 when he had to take early retirement. Since then his condition has worsened and our Mum is now his full time carer. Growing up with a parent who has a progressive neurological disease isn't easy and watching Dad gradually deteriorate has been heart breaking for us. However, Dad has been incredibly courageous in living with this frustrating and at times distressing illness. We feel that running the London Marathon is a way in which we can show how proud we are of him.
The PDS has been and continues to be a great support and source of information for us, particularly the local Exeter group that Mum and Dad attend. We hope that by raising money for the PDS, we can make a small contribution to the research looking for a cure for this disease and help the society to continue supporting people living with PD. We appreciate that these days we are all inundated with requests for sponsorship but this really is a great cause, so please sponsor us today!
