3rd Charity: RNIB Talking Books
Like her granddaughters, Grandma Heather was an avid reader but sadly suffered from a rare form of dementia (Posterior Cortical Atrophy) which affected her ability to read (her eyesight was unaffected but her brain could no longer process writing) so she relied on audio books, as did Jon's mum who suffered from macular degeneration. Grandma was especially sad when she could no longer read to her Grandchildren and they overtook her ability to read as her dementia progressed.
We hope to raise £1,500 to produce a new children's talking book and give those who need it access to the wonderful world of books. RNIB's much-loved Talking Books service is often described as a lifeline by many blind and partially sighted people. This service has been around for over 80 years, has 32,000 titles and is enjoyed by 49,500 people with sight loss across the UK. Unlike commercial audio books, RNIB’s Talking Books are free, easy to order through RNIB’s Helpline number and email, and they’re available in USB, CD and download.
