Story
My name is Hannah and I am 28 years old, I am a powerchair user. I suffer from several illnesses after an injury aged 14. I spent most of my teenage years in hospital and eventually came home at the age of 21. I have been attending White Lodge twice a week since I was 21. Once for physiotherapy/fitness and once for hydrotherapy.
White Lodge is a great place that supports disabled children, young people and adults in a huge variety of areas. From physiotherapy and hydrotherapy for all ages, a nursery for disabled and abled bodied children, playschemes, a respite centre-Treetops for young people under the age of 18, leisure and lifestyle skills for adults etc.
I am an ambassador for White Lodge. I do speeches and workshops at schools, the Guides and Scouts, raising awareness of disability and White Lodge and the good work they do.
For these reasons I want to support White Lodge, to continue to make a difference to disabled people in Surrey and the surrounding area. This is why I have chosen to do the Superhero Tri in aid of White Lodge this year. I felt that I could make a bigger difference by having more teams. So I am pleased to announce that I have two teams under the umbrella of Team Hannah.
Nia and Jon are swimming.
I am doing the cycling with my Dad (Brian) supporting me as my sidekick, in an adapted tandem handcycle and Matt is cycling.
My Mum (Jill) and Ami are doing the walking/wheeling stage with Ewan supporting Ami as her sidekick!
Here is Ami introducing herself here:
'My name is Ami, I am 24 and from Norfolk. I have transverse myelitis, ataxia, hearing difficulties and central vision loss. I am obsessed with superheroes.'
We are doing the Sprint Superhero Tri dressed as superheros. This involves a 150 metre openwater swim, a 3 km cycle and a 1km walk/wheel/run. To many it will seem a short distance, however it will be a huge challenge for both Ami and myself.
Love and thanks, Team Hannah x
