Harrison's Story
Hi everyone! I’m Harrison's Mom, Carla. My little H was born at Good Hope Hospital a couple of days premature in November 2017. After a couple of hours of being with us H started to show signs of being unwell. His blood sugar was low, his heart rate was extremely fast and he was vomiting. In the early hours of the following day, he was taken down to The Special Care Baby Unit. He was put on anti-biotics as he had an infection, he had endless amounts of blood tests, he was also tested for meningitis. As his Mom, this was such a worrying time as we didn’t know what was wrong with him. After hours of constant care, his infection levels came down, and he was on the mend and after a very traumatic after 8 days we could finally take him home!
Every single staff member there played a part in Harrison getting better. Not only did they care for Harrison but they also cared for his Dad and myself. The nurses went beyond with their care of looking after H and
all of the other unwell babies. We learnt so much from them and they made it so easy to ask them any questions we had. We always wanted to stay the night with him but they encouraged us to go home to rest, I felt at ease leaving my son in their capable hands. I cried every time I left him but knowing he was being cared for so well made me feel much better. Fundraising money for this ward is just my way of saying thank you for all of their hard work and giving a little back so that they can carry on with their outstanding work.
The Challenge
We have therefore set ourselves the mammoth challenge of The
Longmynd 50 Mile Hike on the first weekend of October 2018. Our team of 5 with set off at 1pm on Saturday 6th and will attempt all the checkpoints needed and hopefully be back within the 24 hours’ time limit. This will obviously mean walking throughout the night; navigating under torch light with very little rest and carrying enough supplies to see us all get over the finish line.
Please support our team’s efforts by helping with our fundraising and pledging a little cash towards our target amount.
For more details on the challenge itself go to the official hike website https://www.longmyndhike.org.uk/
