Story
Team GEC! We are a team of 7 MSc Global Ecology and Conservation (GEC) students at Cardiff University.
We are hiking Pen y Fan, the highest peak in South Wales (UK) situated in Brecon Beacons National Park, to raise awareness and funds to directly support cheetahs in the Horn of Africa and #EndCheetahTrafficking with the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF).
CCF UK is calling for its supporters to join forces and help raise enough funds to help save the cheetah from extinction. The race is on to save the cheetah and, with your help, it can be won. Cheetahs were once found thriving in numbers of more than 100,000, across a range that stretched through Africa and Asia; today, just 7,100 remain in the wild, occupying 9% of their natural range. Each year, an estimated 300 cheetahs are illegally trafficked from the Horn of Africa. The cheetah is now Africa's most endangered big cat. By working together we can save the fast land animal from its race to extinction!
- £10 to feed 3 cheetah cubs at the CCF safe houses for a day.
- £20 to deliver community awareness to 10 community members in villages on trafficking routes.
- £50 to provide much needed veterinary care for 1 cheetah cub at the CCF safe houses.
