In November 2012 my wonderful Mum Gill Davis was diagnosed with a blood cancer called Myeloma. From the offset Mum showed nothing but a positive attitude and fought this disease head-on, with incredible bravery, courage and strength. The stem cell transplant and chemotherapy which Mum had undergone in the April of 2013 had been deemed a success and by the July she had gone into remission. The following months were happy ones and Mum and Dad even went on holiday to Madeira. Mum returned to Zumba and started running again and signed up to run the Bristol 10k for the Penny Brohn Centre. Cruelly, In March 2014 the cancer had returned and Mum had to start treatment immediately. Within a week of being re-diagnosed, Mum was rushed into intensive care and we were told that the following 24 hours were critical. Incredibly, after 5 days Mum fought her way out of intensive care to the high dependency unit and then back onto the oncology ward. We sat and played crosswords, shared mothers day morning together and talked about the impending due date of her first Grandchild. April 3rd came and went and Baby Davis still hadn't made an appearance. Carlee kept telling Mum that the baby would be here any day. "You've been saying that for weeks Carlee" mum said. On Saturday the 5th April Mum was allowed to come home and the following day we sat in the cottage eating cake and talked about Baby Davis. We hadn't seen Mum walk since she'd gone into hospital. As we said goodbye she stood up, gave us a twirl and hugged both me and Carlee and then waved out of the window as we walked down the garden path. On the 10th April Mum lost her battle with cancer, in the early hours of the following morning Carlee went into labour and 20 hours later we were holding our beautiful baby boy Gabriel.
Words can't really express what we have felt over the last 9 months. All I know is that my Mum would be so incredibly proud of us and would have been the most fantastic Nanna to Gabriel.
We want to raise as much money as we can for the Penny Brohn Centre as it was a real sanctuary for both Mum and Dad.
We will all be running in memory of the bravest person I have ever or will ever know.
This is for you Mum. Love John, Carlee, Gabriel and Team Davis x
